Dr. C.C. Onwuka is the Head of the Department of Sociology. A respected sociologist and academic, he has an extensive background in social research, community development, and the study of social change.

Since assuming office in 2024, Dr. Onwuka has led initiatives to expand the department’s research capacity, foster community partnerships, and promote a deeper understanding of social dynamics among students and faculty.

Welcome to the Department of Sociology at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Igbariam Campus. Established in the 2011/2012 academic session, we are dedicated to exploring the intricate dynamics of human societies and cultures through rigorous academic inquiry and community engagement.

Admission Requirements

  • Undergraduate Admission: Minimum five credits in SSCE/WASSCE/NECO, including English and Mathematics, and meet UTME cut-off.
  • Direct Entry: A-level passes, OND/HND/NCE, or 2-year Diploma in Social Work, plus O’level requirements.
  • Postgraduate Admission (MSc): Second Class (Lower Division) Bachelor’s in Sociology or related field, or PGD with CGPA 3.0.
