Welcome to the Department of Psychology at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, where academic excellence meets profound societal impact. Established in the 2011/2012 academic session, our department is dedicated to fostering a deep understanding of human behavior, thought processes, and emotions through a rigorous and dynamic curriculum. Our programs cover a wide range of psychological disciplines, including Behavioral Studies, Clinical Psychology, Cognitive Science, and Developmental Psychology. A Legacy of Perseverance and Success

The journey of the Department of Psychology began in 2008 with the tireless efforts of Mr. Okechukwu Dominic Nwankwo (now Prof. Barr. Okechukwu Dominic Nwankwo) and Prof. C.C Nweke. Despite numerous challenges, their vision and dedication, along with the support of Prof. Fidelis Okafor, led to the department’s formal establishment in 2011. Since then, we have grown significantly, guided by distinguished leaders including our first Head of Department, Prof. Ntomchukwu Sylvester Madu, and the support of our committed faculty and staff.

– Full Accreditation: Achieved through continuous commitment to academic standards.

– Pioneer Graduates: Successfully graduated our first cohort of students, who have gone on to make impactful contributions in various fields.

– Recognition in Excellence: Our student, Owoh Ifeanyi Godswill, emerged as the best graduating student in the Faculty of Social Sciences for the 2019/2020 academic year.

– Research and Development: Conducted impactful workshops on research writing and mental health awareness campaigns, including the celebration of World Mental Health Day.

Academic Programmes

Our department offers a range of comprehensive programmes designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to address psychological challenges:

– Undergraduate Programme (B.Sc.): A thorough curriculum that covers fundamental and advanced topics in psychology.

– Postgraduate Diploma (PGD): For individuals transitioning from other disciplines or enhancing their psychology background.

– Master’s Degree (M.Sc.): Advanced studies for those holding a good B.Sc. honours degree in psychology.

– Doctoral Degree (Ph.D.): In-depth research-oriented programme for those with a master’s degree in psychology, aiming to contribute original knowledge to the field.

 

Admission Requirements

We maintain rigorous admission standards to ensure our students are well-prepared for their academic journey:

– Undergraduate: Five O’level credits including English Language, Mathematics, and Biology/Health Science.

– Postgraduate Diploma: A degree in psychology or related disciplines, with specific requirements for candidates from other fields.

– Master’s: A good B.Sc. honours degree in psychology and meeting the university’s postgraduate admission criteria.

– Doctoral: A master’s degree in psychology with a minimum FCGPA of 3.50 or equivalent.
